How to get to Accademia Bridge

Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal between San Marco and Dorsoduro and is one of the most useful pedestrian links between the two areas. If you are already in the historic centre, walking is often the simplest way to reach it.

From Santa Lucia or Piazzale Roma, you can cross Venice on foot or approach by water and complete the final section walking. The right choice depends on where you start and how much ground you want to cover.

How to reach Accademia Bridge

  • From St Mark’s Square. The bridge is easy to reach on foot through central Venice.
  • From Dorsoduro. It is one of the main pedestrian crossings toward the San Marco side.
  • From Venezia Santa Lucia. Walk through the historic centre or combine the route with a waterbus.
  • From Piazzale Roma. The journey is usually on foot or a mix of walking and water transport.
  • From Rialto. A walking route connects two of the Grand Canal’s best-known bridges.

What to know before you go

Accademia Bridge is especially useful when moving between Dorsoduro and the San Marco area. The shortest line on a map is not always the most practical option: knowing which side of the Grand Canal you are on can prevent unnecessary detours.

If you are heading to the Gallerie dell’Accademia, Zattere or the inner streets of Dorsoduro, the bridge is a useful orientation point.

Practical tips

  • Check which side of the Grand Canal you are approaching from.
  • Treat the bridge as a natural connection between San Marco and Dorsoduro.
  • With luggage or reduced mobility, consider the bridges and steps on the full route.
  • For longer distances, compare walking with water transport.
  • Search for Accademia Bridge rather than only “Accademia” to avoid confusion with the galleries.
